StarFox Wii - The Wishlist
Star Fox Wii - The Wishlist
In September of 2009, a staff member at Nintendo had admitted a "Star Fox game for the Wii" was in the works, but declined to further comment on it, as it was still early in development.
It's been about three and a half years since Star Fox: Command (Nintendo DS) was released (in 2006). Since fans are disappointed with the long wates between games and the percieved decline in quality of each game (along with the increasingly confusing timelines with the games after Star Fox 64), some have even made their own fan games (Shadows of Lylat and Project Kursed are the two largest examples).
Although Star Fox game has a rather long wait in between each game, it's only natural that Fox McCloud would eventually fly his Arwing right into our homes on the Wii. This little essay is my "wish-list" for a Star Fox video game on the Nintendo Wii.
Make your own Pilot/Character
This would add interaction with the video game characters to an unprecedented degree in the Star Fox fandom. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games allow you to compete as your Mii, so we know this is an easily doable option. Allowing people to create their own characters would be fantastic. It would be a blend of Star Fox and Second Life/PlayStation Home/XBox Live Avatars/Miis.
Make your own Arwing/Wolfen/Ship
This would be a natural marriage with the "make your own pilot/character" option above. It would give a further dimension of realism and depth to the Star Fox series.
Allow the players to pick sides in conflict/open gameplay
One thing I've always liked about video games that offer you the option of acting as either good or evil is that they offer so many more choices than simply acting as the hero. Sonic Adventure 2 (2001 Dreamcast, 2002 Gamecube) and Shadow the Hedgehog (2005 Gamecube, PlayStation 2, Xbox) offer this (even much moreso with Shadow the Hedgehog, as it has MULTIPLE branching storylines), with multiple endings, and even secret/unlockable endings. I cannot stress enough how this could benefit gameplay, as it would send replay value THROUGH THE ROOF! If the players are able to pick sides (Play as Star Fox Team and Save Lylat... or Play as Star Wolf Team, and CONQUER IT!), the game will be like Super Smash Bros. Brawl: still in the top-ten YEARS after its release.
Allow the players to pick which pilot they are:
I completely understand the logic and reasoning behind playing as the "main" character, and Fox McCloud *is* the undeniable star of the Star Fox franchise (it's not called Star Slippy for a reason... Star Falco, on the other hand...). Letting the players have a choice in who they act as (falco would require more skill, slippy would be fore beginners, fox would be well-rounded for the average player..) could add infinite replay value.
Unlockable characters:
I would love to see Fara Phoenix, Miyu Lynx, and Fay Dog as unlockable characters in a future Star Fox game, though i understand that royalties that the characters' creator (Benimaru Itoh) were a bit higher than what Nintendo was willing or able to pay, and thus, may not be possible to be included in a Star Fox game.
Unlockable modes:
These are entirely optional, though i would LOVE to see them in a future game:
Playing 15/20/30 years later as Marcus McCloud and the new Star Fox Team he leads. I'd love to see the next generation of Star Fox protecting the Lylat System, as his grandfather and father did before him.
Playing as the ORIGINAL Star Fox Team (James McCloud, Peppy Hare, Pigma Dengar). This would probably be enough to stand as its own game. Play as the original Star Fox team, take down Andross as James, or even fight off Pigma Dengar and either survive being murdered by Pigma, or at least go down in a blaze of glory to protect Corneria. Just because James is missing and PRESUMED dead does not necessarily mean he IS... although Shigeru Miyamoto has claimed that James has infact died. Having James alive and either lost, brainwashed and fighting for Andross, or even trying to find his way back to Lylat would make for a very compelling story, and a reunion with Fox and James would be very emotional, and yet... SO rewarding for the gamer to see.
